Good Energy was founded in 2003 with the aim of increasing the amount of renewable energy being used in the United Kingdom, reducing the national grid’s reliance on fossil fuels and helping customers cut down on their carbon footprints.

They are a fully green supplier, and one of the smaller firms on the market, with over 250,000 customers across the UK.

Good Energy Tariffs and Pricing

Good Energy provide three main tariffs for their customers for gas and electricity (which can also be purchased separately):

• Fixed Duration: This is a 24-month fixed rate contract. It comes with a no price rise guarantee, meaning that the amount you pay will be locked for the length of the contract, regardless of changes in the costs of producing energy, and you will be able to budget accordingly.
• Flexible Duration: This is their variable tariff, which will change in price depending on how much it Good Energy pays for their wholesale gas and electricity. This is usually more expensive than the fixed rate tariff, however you can get a direct debit discount.
• EV Driver 4: This is a specialised tariff for customers who drive an electric vehicle. This provides a reduced standing charge rate and a lower unit rate at certain times, so those who drive electric vehicles can have access to cheaper electricity.

Where are Good Energy Based?

Good Energy are based in Chippenham in Wiltshire. The company has a small team of around 300 employees.

Fuel Mix

Good Energy gets its energy from 100% renewable energy sources.  According to their website, 53.9% of the energy for their fuel mix comes from wind turbines, 28.4% from biomass, 13.4% from solar power, and 4.3% from hydroelectric power sources.

They make their gas supply technically carbon neutral by supporting projects which offset the carbon dioxide which is released into the atmosphere when gas is burnt.

Good Energy support carbon reduction schemes in India, China and Turkey, and they also own wind farms in the UK.

Customer Service Ratings

Good Energy have won multiple Which? awards for the best customer service for a utility company, including in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

According to nearly 5,000 reviews on customer review website Trustpilot, Good Energy have an ‘Excellent’ grade, with an overall score of 4.4 stars.  With 64% of their customers giving the company a full five stars, and an additional 14% giving them four stars, they have many happy customers who are satisfied with the service that they receive and the prices that they pay.

Exit Fees

Unlike most competitors, Good Energy do not charge any exit fees on either their fixed or flexible tariffs.  This means that you can choose to break your contract whenever you wish, without having to pay them any compensation for leaving early.

For comparison, EDF Energy can charge up to £50 per fuel depending on how much time remaining on your contract when you choose to break it.
