EDF is currently one of the ‘Big Six’ energy providers in the UK and provides the majority of electricity and gas to people in London, South West and South East England. EDF Energy was formed in 2003 and is a mergence of the old London Electricity and Seeboard companies. EDF now generates around 7% of the UK’s entire electricity supply. They are committed to produce low carbon energy and are currently the UK’s lowest producer of it. In 2009 they took over the company British Energy and now have a customer base of over 5 million across the UK. They also have in excess of 12,000 employees on their books and are a well established and highly used energy provider in the UK.
