Affect Energy was founded in 2014 in Shoreham-By-Sea on the South Coast of England, making it a relative newcomer to the energy market. They promise to make energy “simple, painless and great value for money”, and they currently supply gas and electricity to over 20,000 customers in the UK.
They are owned by Octopus Energy, but maintain their own branding and provide their own tariffs and service to their customers.
In keeping line with their promise to make energy simpler, Affect Energy offer only two tariffs to dual fuel customers:
Affect Energy do not currently offer tariffs for customers with prepayment meters.
Affect do offer time of use tariffs for customers with Economy 7 meters. This allows customers to take advantage of cheaper energy during off-peak hours (such as during the night) when demand is lower. The price that you pay per kWh of energy differs depending on where your home is situated.
They do not, however, currently provide tariffs for those with Economy 10 meters.
In 2018, Octopus Energy announced their acquisition of Affect Energy for an undisclosed seven-figure sum. Octopus opted to retain the separate branding of Affect Energy, but moved the customers to the Octopus Energy networks.
This means that Octopus provide the gas and electricity to Affect customers, but Affect will still have their own distinct tariffs, as well as provide their own customer service.
It is all well and good then, that Affect Energy’s customer service reputation is excellent. On reviews platform Trustpilot, they scored a whopping 4.9 stars out of 5 with over 2,000 reviews. This gives them an overall score of “Excellent”.
The support team can be reached by phone (on 0330 60 62 675) between 9.00am and 5.00pm between Monday and Friday, by email, or by direct message on Facebook and Twitter.
Octopus Energy provide 100% renewable electricity. All of the electricity that is provided comes from wind farms, solar panels, hydroelectric dams and other renewable sources.
For their fixed tariff, Affect Energy charge an exit fee of £25 per fuel, or £50 altogether if you have a dual fuel contract. This applies if you wish to break your contract early, and there are no charges if you wish to switch after the twelve months expires.
There is no contractual obligation if you are on the Standard tariff, and therefore no exit fees or barriers to leaving if you wish to switch to another energy firm as your supplier.
