Unlike broadband providers such as BT, Sky, and TalkTalk that use Openreach’s almost universally-available network, Virgin Media uses its own cable broadband network. That means its broadband and TV services are only available to the 15.5 million premises that its particular network reaches.
Currently, Virgin Media reaches around 60% of all UK homes. But if your home is among the 40% not covered, you won’t be able to sign up to any Virgin Media broadband package at this moment in time, unfortunately.

If you can’t yet access Virgin Media at home, don’t despair. The company is heavily investing in expanding its network across the whole country.
In 2022, Virgin Media announced that it will add 7.5 million premises to its footprint by 2027, making its services available to 23 million properties across the UK. However, Virgin Media tends to stay quiet about where it intends to expand its network next, so you might not know Virgin Media is arriving on your street until engineers turn up to dig up the road.
Virgin Media maintains a webpage on its network expansion, however, allowing you to check your postcode to see if the network intends to reach you in the immediate future. You can also fill out a form to request a connection be installed at your home, but Virgin Media is unlikely to hook you up individually, unless their rollout plan has already targeted your area.
