Pure Planet is a relative newcomer to the energy market, having begun supplying homes with fully renewable electricity and carbon-offset gas in 2017.
With a focus on sustainability in all aspects, Pure Planet is not only carbon neutral in its energy supply, but also adds zero markup to the energy it buys and sells to customers.
After having started trading in 2018, green energy supplier Pure Planet has grown its customer base rapidly to over 100,000 customers. Pure Planet sell gas and electricity that has been purchased on its behalf by its part-owner BP.
Pure Planet offer just two main tariffs to customers, which helps to keep things simple if you are thinking of switching:
Pure Planet differ from other energy providers, in that when you sign up, you become a ‘member’, rather than a customer. As such, you pay a ‘membership fee’, which covers installation expenses, engineers, and customer support costs, on top of the cost of energy that you use.
Pure Planet add zero mark-up to their tariffs, selling energy at cost price to their customers. This makes their plans invariably cheaper than much of the competition, but it does mean that as you use less energy, the flat membership fee will make up a larger percentage of your monthly bill. Even with this taken into account, their prices remain competitive for most households.
In order to help customers with electric cars save on charging their vehicles, Pure Planet have collaborated with EO charging to provide the EO Mini Pro 2.
This is the world’s smallest smart charger for your home, and can be controlled in the EO Smart Home app. Its size (or lack thereof) helps to keep it from getting in the way in your home and you can save money on installation if you apply for the OLEV government grant, worth up to £350.
Pure Planet’s customer service works differently from most other energy companies, in that you cannot contact them over the phone. All queries (except for gas leak emergencies) are 100% online.
This means that you can contact the energy supplier with any queries or issues using the Pure Planet App, messaging them on Facebook or Twitter, or by emailing them at [email protected].
Despite this Pure Planet have consistently scored highly for their customer service, being awarded as a Which? recommended provider in both 2020 and 2021. Their Trustpilot score of 4.6 stars out of 5 gives them an overall score of ‘Excellent’, showing that most customers do not mind that they cannot be contacted by phone.
Pure Planet do not currently offer plans for those whose homes have prepayment meters.
However, according to a blog post at the tail end of 2020, they are working on Pay As You Go (PAYG) meters for Pure Planet members, which was due to start earlier this year.
Although this hasn’t quite happened, it should not take too long, and you can register your interest online.
For the fixed term contract, Pure Planet customers do have to pay an exit fee if they choose to break their contract before the last 50 days of their agreed deal. This price is £30 per fuel (gas or electricity).
